Cartographic Association Conference

Traditional Land Use Poster International Cartographic Association Conference 2011 – Paris, France

This poster is based on the Traditional Land Use project we completed in 2010-11 with the Fort McKay First Nation in Northern Alberta. Here we describe process and provide ‘hypothetical’ TLU mapping examples of cartographic work and GIS analysis that is typical for a community of this type. Our intention is to demonstrate challenges that we have encountered and solutions that we have developed in our previous mapping work. Our hope is that this material will contribute to a set of best practices around mapping and GIS for, and by indigenous communities, specifically in a Northern Alberta context.
